BlocBoy JB Tells the Story Behind "Look Alive": 'Was Drake's Song From Da Jump"
He also teased that he's working on new music.
BlocBoy JB has revealed that his breakout 2018 single “Look Alive,” with its famed Drake feature, was actually Drizzy's to begin with.
JB reshared a post on X that gave Drake props for his features. The music playing in the clip was “Look Alive,” prompting JB to comment.
“For The Record Look Alive Was Drake Song From Da Jump He Was Just A RN And Gave Me Dat Mfer,” he wrote.
This isn't the first time JB has made it clear how big of a Drake supporter he is. In December, the Memphis rapper took to Instagram to call out rappers who were close to the Toronto lyricist but turned their backs on him in the midst of his feud with Kendrick Lamar.
“I’ll Never Switch Sides On Anybody That Helped Me This Rap Game Different N***as Will Fake Fucc Wit Ya For Da Moment Just Cuz It’s Beneficial I’ll Never Switch UP On Da [Owl] Ion Give Af Wat Cuh Do,” he wrote.
In 2018, JB explained how “Look Alive” came to life.
"OK, so, [Drake] had posted the song [on Instagram], and as soon as he posted it, I had replied 100," JB said in an interview with The Fader. "And then he was like, 'My favorite rapper! We gotta cook.' As soon as I said, 'OK,' he called me. And then the next day, he sent me his part of the song.
“He knew my producer [Tay Keith] already so he was already talking to him and he got the beat from him, sent it to me early in the morning,” JB continued. “I jumped straight up and went to the studio. Then about two or three days later, he was in the city and we shot the video. It still seem fake, like a dream. I could pinch myself and not feel it."
JB made a post on Instagram suggesting that he’s working on new music, writing as a caption, “I’m bacc on my Rap Shit.”
