Drake Praises Lil Yachty's Creativity for Making "Poland": 'Nobody Is That Free of a Thinker'
He also brought up Lil Wayne to talk about Yachty's creativity.
If there’s one thing that Drake’s going to do, it’s stand behind whatever his frequent collaborator Lil Yachty releases. In one of the unreleased videos recently posted on 100gigs.org, Drizzy not only cosigned Yachty’s “Poland," he also, briefly, compared him to the man that put Toronto’s finest on in the first place.
In what appears to be studio footage, Drake is talking to a couple of people about music when he mentions “Poland” — the Lil Yachty song that dropped in 2022. It’s not a characteristically “Lil Yachty-type” track if that even exists, and Drake made sure to explain how creative he thinks it is when talking about it.
“It’s such an incredibly frustrating song for any other artist because nobody is that free of a thinker,” the Canadian artist said. “So ultimately you be like damn, why didn’t I think of that.”
Drake continued expressing his appreciation of the song, and for Yachty—eventually making a creative comparison to explain why his frequent collaborator is so musically adventurous. “I think he’s just broken through and he’s just trying shit and none of it’s bad,” he said. “It’s the exact moment that Lil Wayne did ‘I Feel Like Dying.’”
If you follow Drake, you know how he’s feels about “Poland.” Way back when the song dropped, he was one of the people (as well as Offset, Wiz Khalifa, and DDG) who posted a video of themselves dancing to it.
Drizzy’s support of “Poland” is even more powerful if you take into account that he, reportedly, doesn’t listen to a lot of music. We spoke with Lil Yachty (and James Blake) in June when he revealed that Drake doesn’t really check out music — even though he’s always dropping new tunes. “When I started hanging with him a lot, he really listens to music,” said Lil Yachty. “Except for like, when he’s recording?”
Drake’s comments on “Poland” came as a part of a massive release of previously unshared content. Three songs—”It’s Up” ft. 21 Savage and Young Thug, “Housekeeping Knows” with Latto, and “Blue Green Red”—also dropped.
