Freddie Gibbs has revealed that he’s working on a joint album with Kaytranada.

The rapper spoke with Apple Music about his upcoming release plans after he drops Alfredo 2, the soon-to-be-released sequel to his 2020 project with The Alchemist.

“I was with Kaytranada a couple of months ago and we made a new song, so I was like ‘Alright, let’s make a whole album,’” claimed Gibbs. “I think that’s going to be the next album.”

Gibbs explained that the album is already in the works, because he started it when he was finishing up the first Alfredo album that came out in 2020. The rapper also revealed how Ty Dolla $ign inspired him.

Ty Dolla Sign is one of the best musicians that I’ve been in the studio with all around, from the singing, producing, playing live instruments, to rapping,” Gibbs explained. “He’s like a Swiss Army knife in the studio, so the month and a half or so that I got to spend with him in Italy, when we were working on Vultures, was a really inspirational time for me.”

“The very first song I’ve got with Kaytranada is with Ty,” Gibbs continued.

The Gary, Indiana-born rapper is gearing up for the release of Alfredo 2 with The Alchemist on July 25. The rapper, who’s become known for his high profile collaborative albums with producers, announced the LP on July 17 after some cryptic teasers and a special advance screening of Alfredo: The Movie.

Kaytranada’s coming off of the release of his fourth studio album, Timeless, that dropped in 2024. He’s gearing up to go on a tour with electronic musicians Justice that kicks off in October in Vancouver, British Columbia, and wraps up in November in Miami.

There’s no clue what Gibbs will rap about on his album with Kaytranada, but there’s a chance he decides to lean away from street raps, considering the fact that the rapper recently said he wishes he could rap about different things.

“I’ma tell you the truth, man, I wish that I could get up and rap about some other shit. I wish that I would’ve made a career of rapping about some funny shit or girls or comedic or any fucking thing but this shit,” he lamented to students at the University of California last year.

“Every day I think about that. I wish I had a rap career … that was not gangsta. I don’t want this shit for myself. I don’t want this shit for my son. I rap about this shit because it consumed me, it’s where I’m from, it’s what I was doing on the daily for two decades.”
