Jermaine Dupri Says Quavo and Offset Are 'Better Together' Than As Solo Artists
Dupri also explained how he felt when he learned Takeoff passed away.
Jermaine Dupri thinks that Quavo and Offset are better together than they are solo artists.
Dupri spoke about the former Migos members on the BagFuel podcast. He explained how the group's 2022 split impacted Atlanta.
“That hurt a lot of the city, period,” he explained. “The Migos breaking up was a bad situation for Atlanta because they was moving — and I think they’re better together anyway, me personally.”
The legendary producer also explained how he felt when he learned that Takeoff passed away in late 2022.
“It was really crazy for us. I ain’t think Atlanta ni**as was gonna die,” Dupri recalled. “An Atlanta rapper dying felt like ‘Aw damn, what the fuck is going on?’ It felt crazy to me.”
Dupri has been a supporter of the Migos for years, going as far as to include them in the “New Atlanta” class with Rich Homie Quan and Young Thug in the mid-2010s.
During an episode of The Rap Game in 2016, Dupri said of the Migos, “They’ve got one of the most infectious rap styles that everybody’s trying to do.”
In 2023, Dupri referring to the group as some of Atlanta’s best artists while explaining his belief that hip-hop is in a bad spot.
“I feel like Hip-Hop is definitely hurting and needs reviving,” Dupri said during an interview with Vibe. “I have to go ahead and say this: For the last 20 years, Atlanta’s always had at least five to six top rappers at one time. Right now, Atlanta’s dropped down to two top artists: Lil Baby and Future.”
“There’s a lot of talent in the city still,” he continued. “I don’t want anybody to screw what I’m saying, but that top tier where you have Ludacris, Jeezy, 2 Chainz, Migos, Future, Lil Baby – I mean, at one point, all of this was Atlanta. This was where all the top-tier rap artists came from.”
