Post Malone Says Young Thug Is His Favorite Lyricist and Melody Maker of All Time
“He goes to such crazy f*ckin’ places — free Young Thug, by the way.”
Post Malone may be firmly ingrained in country music right now, but that doesn’t stop him from declaring Young Thug his favorite melody writer and lyricist of all time.
Malone, who previously collaborated with Thugger on “Goodbyes” in 2019, expressed his admiration during a recent appearance on This Past Weekend With Theo Von.
“Young Thug, for me, is my favorite lyricist and melody maker of all fuckin’ time,” said Malone. “The first song I heard, it was him and Peewee Longway — it was a song called ‘Loaded.’ And I was like, what the fuck? These melodies [are] insane.
Malone continued to praise Thug, explaining what makes the currently incarcerated rapper his favorite. “He goes to such crazy fuckin’ places — free Young Thug, by the way,” said Post. “He goes to such crazy fuckin’ places where the natural mind, my melody mind, doesn’t go. I would go down one place, and he would go like two octaves up. And I was like, what the fuck, this is mind[blowing]. So fun to listen to.”
Last month, Malone spoke to CBS News Sunday Morning about being called a “culture vulture” following the release of his viral song “White Iverson” in 2015.
“It sucked,” he said. “I was a kid.” He also revealed that he coped with the criticism by drinking heavily.
When asked if he took it personally, he admitted that he did, but he continued to write songs anyway. “It’s not for people who hate you,” he explained. “It’s for the people who love you, and for yourself, you know what I mean?”
Most recently though, Malone released his first country album, F-1 Trillion, on August 16. The LP, which took the top country spot on the Billboard 200 chart, sold more than 250,000 units in its first week and features appearances from country artists like Dolly Parton, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, and Morgan Wallen.
