Miranda Cosgrove Says ‘iCarly’ Finale Movie Is ‘Happening’
A reboot of the series ran for three seasons on Paramount+ before getting cancelled after ending on a cliffhanger.
The iCarly reboot on Paramount+ may have ended on a cliffhanger, but as the series’ star Miranda Cosgrove sings on the theme song, somehow we’re gonna get there.
In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly published Wednesday, August 6, Cosgrove — who played the show’s namesake Carly Shay — revealed that a movie intended to wrap up the series is in the early stages.
"It's being written, which is really exciting," Cosgrove said. "And it looks like it's happening. I'm really excited."
The original iteration of iCarly aired on Nickelodeon from 2007-2012. The show centered around Carly, who hosted and produced a weekly webshow with her best friends Sam (Jennette McCurdy) and Freddie (Nathan Kress). The show was rebooted for Paramount+ in 2021, with much of the original cast returning — with the exception of McCurdy — as well as new characters like Carly’s roommate Harper (Laci Mosley) and Freddie’s adopted daughter Millicent (Jaidyn Triplett).
The reboot offered more adult storylines, and touched on topics like dating, sex, and marriage. In the finale of the third season, which aired in 2023, Carly and Freddie are in Las Vegas preparing for the nuptials of Freddie’s mom, Marissa (Mary Scheer) and their doorman Lewbert (Jeremy Rowley). Carly and Freddie consider getting married at the venue as well, but before matters can be discussed, the conversation is interrupted by Carly’s mother.
Though her mother is off-screen in this moment, Carly’s last line upon seeing her mother was “Mom?”
In the original version, Carly’s father served in the military, and thus, she was raised by her older brother Spencer (Jerry Trainor). Carly’s mother had never been seen in either the original or reboot. But should the movie come to fruition, Cosgrove promises we will see Carly’s mother, and get some sort of resolution on the storyline.
"We don't know who's going to play the mom character yet, but she's going to be a big part of the movie," she said. "That's exciting. We're just excited to start it and actually film."
While fans wait for the potential iCarly movie, Cosgrove will star in the Netflix original The Wrong Paris set to premiere on Friday, Sept. 12.
