A new chapter will soon begin in the Power universe.

Deadline reported Power: Origins has been ordered to series by Starz. Power: Origins marks the fifth installment in the Power franchise and the second prequel, following Power Book III: Raising Kanan. The new prequel series will reportedly contain 18 episodes, with Raising Kanan creator Sascha Penn serving as the showrunner, writer, and executive producer.

Power: Origins will tell the story of a young Ghost and Tommy — the characters respectively originated by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora upon Power’s 2014 premiere. At the time of writing, Ghost and Tommy’s younger counterparts have not been cast. However, MeKai Curtis is set to reprise the role of early adult Kanan Stark.

“I’m excited to continue to explore the origin stories of the Power Universe’s founding fathers,” said Penn in a statement. “Ghost and Tommy’s backstories have fueled years of constant fascination and speculation among fans, and I’m thrilled to be able to answer some long-held questions and share new layers of the story that viewers won’t see coming.”

Power was created by Courtney A. Kemp, who also serves as an executive producer on the show. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is also an executive producer, along with Mark Canton, Chris Selak, and Pete Chatmon. Lionsgate is set to produce Power: Origins for Starz.

“Our fans have been asking for Ghost and Tommy’s origins story since we first met them in Power — and with the launch of this series, we’re delivering in a big way,” said Kathryn Busby, President of Original Programming for Starz. “This marks an electrifying new chapter in the franchise’s evolution as we dive deep into the legacy of these iconic characters and the explosive moments that shaped their path.”

Elsewhere in the Power universe, Raising Kanan is expected to end after its sixth season, which is set to premiere in 2026.
