‘Minecraft Movie’ Screening Leads to Police Being Called After ‘Chicken Jockey’ Trend Goes Haywire
If you thought fans singing along to 'Wicked' were annoying, just wait until you hear a theater full of teenage boys yelling "Chicken jockey!"
A Minecraft Movie apparently has fans getting too rowdy in theaters.
As seen in clips circulating on social media, the Jack Black and Jason Momoa-led film adapted from the popular video game has seemingly brought out young and overzealous fans to recite lines, cheer, and allegedly throw popcorn and drinks during screenings.
One of the more viral incidents seen over 13 million times on TikTok featured a theater erupt into simultaneous cheers after fans yelled out “Chicken jockey” in sync with Jack Black’s character, Steve.
Later into the clip, a pair of police officers were seen escorting a group of teenage boys out of the auditorium.
The “Chicken jockey” scene in question, which makes a reference to the original Minecraft game, was first shown in the film’s trailer when it was released in February and has since taken a life of its own, according to IGN.
The behavior has been traced back to viral TikTok compilations of the film’s best moments—some of which had been revealed in the aforementioned movie trailer, per Screen Crush.
A Minecraft Movie hit theaters on Friday (April 4) and already pulled a staggering $301 million globally during its opening weekend so far, making it the second largest opening gross for a video game adaptation after the Super Mario Bros. Movie debuted with $377 million.
