Wayne Brady Admits He Was in the ‘Throes of Depression’ While Filming New Reality Series: ‘I’m Glad That We Also Caught That on Tape’

The 52-year-old actor came out as pansexual last August.

Viewers who tune into Wayne Brady’s upcoming reality show will get to see a side of him they’ve never seen before.

According to People, the 52-year-old actor made an appearance during the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour in Pasadena, California on Wednesday to promote his upcoming series, Wayne Brady: The Family Remix.

The series, which centers Brady's blended family, shows the actor getting getting vulnerable while being in the “throes of depression.” However, he says he has no regrets about having his day-to-day life and mental health journey documented on camera.

“I'm glad that we also caught that on tape,” Brady said, per People. “And I was so in the throes of this, oh, this darkness, this whole thing, that the only way that I felt that I could show up was I needed to be needed. I've got to work."

The Price is Right host continued, “I can walk on stage and be charming and affable and make you laugh and look in the camera and do my thing. But the fact that that guy, and I even say it in the show, ‘I could make millions of people happy, but I would go home, and I feel like a piece of shit, and I couldn't do that anymore.’”

Despite his struggles, the actor, who came out as pansexual last August, says that his mental health has improved and feels like he can have “more fun” while working on other projects.

“So, I hope that in any project I do [from] this point on is affected positively because I was able to be honest,” Brady added,

Brady recently played the title character in The Wiz when the musical returned to Broadway in April. He played his final performance on July 12, per Playbill.
