Bella Thorne Responds to Criticism After Proposing to Fiancé Years After He Proposed to Her

Bella Thorne has heard to the criticism after sharing a video of her proposing to her fiancé, TV and movie producer Mark Emms.

In an Instagram post, which included multiple videos and photos, Thorne revealed that she got down on one knee and presented a ring to Emms, two years after they got engaged when he popped the question. "3 years ago we met, 1 year later he proposed," Thorne captioned the post. "Now 1 year later so did I." Photos alongside the video of the moment she proposed showed off the romantic setup of the room, which included plenty of flowers, candles, and balloons.

While a lot of the comments on the post were supportive, with some calling the moment cute, plenty of comments questioned the need for her to get on one knee after he already did so years ago. "He literally already proposed to her," reads one comment. "Why are y'all like this?" Another reads, "If he already proposed why did you do it lol I'm confused." Other comments also questioned the gender dynamics on display, as if women can't also propose.

Thorne later responded to the split in reactions in a post on her Instagram Stories.

"The comments on my post are hilarious!!" she wrote alongside a photo of her fiancé with a dog. "Totally split down the middle. Half of u are like 'let's not normalize proposing to your partner'—other half is like fuck yeah girl power this is the sweetest!!"

As reported by Vogue in 2023, Emms proposed to Thorne at her home in California with a 10-plus-carat emerald-cut diamond ring. She later showcased the ring in several photos shared on social media. She told the outlet that she had already started thinking about her wedding with Emms. "Every bride does not need one gown, but four!" she added. The pair met during mutual friend Cara Delevingne's birthday party in 2022.

In an interview with People in December 2023, Thorne said that their relationship had "gotten heightened" since their engagement. "Every day we kind of draw closer," she said. "It's really like, ‘Oh wow, we're really, you're my partner.’ Let's do this together. So that kind of becomes more real every day, and kind of solidifies our partnership more and more every day."
