Ben Affleck Admits His Batman Costume Was ‘Horrendous to Wear’
Affleck made his debut as Bruce Wayne in Zack Snyder's 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' in 2016.
Ben Affleck wasn't a fan of suiting up for his role as Batman in the DC Extended Universe.
In a video interview with GQ that breaks down his acting career, Affleck spoke about The Flash and said he didn't love wearing Bruce Wayne's batsuit. "I hated the batsuits. The batsuits are horrendous to wear," he said. "They're hot for one thing. They don't breathe. They're made to look the way they want them to look. There's no thought put into the human being. So what happens is that you just start sweating. ... I sweat, you know what I mean? In that thing, you'd just be pouring water."
Affleck made his debut as Batman in Zack Snyder's 2016 movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He reprised his role in Justice League, Suicide Squad, and The Flash. He also returned for reshoots on Snyder's 2021 director's cut of Justice League.
"It just made it difficult to make the movie, because you're so hot," he continued. "It also does not make you feel very heroic, because you're instantly exhausted and really sweaty. Maybe Christian [Bale] or Rob [Pattinson], guys like that, were just better at dealing with it."
Affleck joined a long line of actors who portrayed Batman in movies, including Michael Keaton, George Clooney, Val Kilmer, Christian Bale, and most recently, Robert Pattinson.
Earlier this year, he reflected on what he saw as some "failings" when it came to his portrayal of Batman. "I wasn’t bringing anything particularly wonderful to that equation at the time, either. I had my own failings, significant failings, in that process and at that time," he said. "I wasn’t bringing a lot of positive energy to the equation. I didn’t cause problems, but I came in and I did my job and I went home. But you’ve got to do a little bit better than that."
