Nintendo has unveiled the pricing, release date, and what games to expect for the highly-anticipated console.

April 2, 2025

UPDATED 4/4 2:10 p.m. ET: Shortly after Nintendo announced when fans can secure a pre-order for the Switch 2, the company delayed opening pre-orders as a result of Donald Trump's tariffs and "evolving market conditions."

As the company confirmed in a statement, pre-orders will no longer open on April 9. "Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs on evolving market conditions," reads the statement. "Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged." The company did not reveal whether the price of the Switch 2 will be impacted by the tariffs.

On Wednesday, April 2, Nintendo hosted an hour-long stream finally detailing the long-anticipated Switch 2.

First announced with a reveal trailer in January, the device will follow in the footsteps of its predecessor by offering both a console mode and a handheld mode. During the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct stream on Wednesday, the company detailed when to expect the device, what games you'll get to play on it, and how much it will cost.

How much will the Switch 2 cost?

The Switch 2 will cost $449.99 at launch, while a bundle including the new Mario Kart game will be available for $499.99. Accessories will be available at launch, including the Switch 2 Pro Controller, which will retail for $79.99.

When will the Switch 2 be released?

The Switch 2 will be available from June 5.

How and when can I pre-order the Switch 2?

Nintendo will be opening pre-orders for the Switch 2 on April 9* through its official website and other participating retailers. Nintendo will send out invites to subscribers of Nintendo Switch Online first, offering the most dedicated Switch fans priority.

*The pre-order date has been delayed as Nintendo assess the impact of Donald Trump's tariffs.

What games will the Switch 2 have?

During the presentation, one of the big announcements was Mario Kart World, which will launch the same day as the Switch 2. Other titles shown included Donkey Kong Banaza, which launches on July 17, Kirby Air Riders, and various upgrades to other first-party titles such as The Legend of Zelda and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.

Several third-party titles got a lot of shine, too. Hades II was confirmed to be coming to the platform, as were Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition. Perhaps the biggest third-party title came from Elden Ring developers FromSoftware, who will bring an exclusive game to the platform next year with The Duskbloods.

What new features will the console have?

The Nintendo Switch 2 will offer a 1080p LCD display with HDR support, offering framerates of up to 60fps during handheld mode. While in the docked mode, players can experience framerates up to 120fps and full 4K support on compatible displays. The Joy-Con 2 controllers, which attach to the console while in handheld mode, also boast improvements such as a magnetized connection.

Another major feature is the ability to play locally with others via GameShare, a feature that will let Switch and Switch 2 owners play a multiplayer game with friends even if they don't own the title.

Nintendo also pushed its new online gaming features for the platform, which will allow friends to stream their screens to one another while chatting via the built-in microphone on the device.
