What Fans Had to Say About ‘Westworld’ Featuring Drogon and the ‘Game of Thrones’ Creators
'Game of Thrones' showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss appeared in the second episode of 'Westworld' Season 3.
Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss appeared on Westworld Sunday night, and in doing so they jokingly made reference to one of the loose plot points of their series. In Season 3 Episode 2 of Westworld, the notorious duo made a brief cameo during a behind-the-scenes tour of "Park 4," which might be a Medieval-themed world. With the technicians of that park still hard at work in their subterranean workspace, Benioff and Weiss show up as "Tech Dave" and "Tech Dan."
The surreal moment sees the two arguing about a "buyer" in Costa Rica, before the camera reveals a robotic version of Daenerys Targaryen's beloved dragon Drogon.
"How the f*ck are you gonna get that to Costa Rica?" asks Dave.
"In pieces, man," Dan replies, with a saw in his hand. Westworld is an adaptation of Michael Crichton's 1973 movie, so as HuffPost pointed out this could be a reference to Crichton's Jurassic Park novels.
In an interview with Variety, Westworld showrunners Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan explained how the cameo came to be. They said they were friends with the pair, and that George R.R. Martin, the creator of the novels on which GoT is based, had suggested that Westworld should have a tie-in with Game of Thrones. They confirmed, however, that it's nothing more than a fan nod for the time being, however.
