Brandy Joins Forces With Daughter Sy’rai Smith for ‘Christmas Everyday’
The Lifetime holiday film will mark Sy'rai Smith's acting debut.
Brandy is keeping it in the family: the Grammy-winning singer and actress will star opposite her daughter, Sy’Rai Smith, in Lifetime’s new holiday film Christmas Everyday, marking Smith’s acting debut and giving Brandy another turn both in front of and behind the camera as an executive producer.
Positioned as the tentpole for the network’s annual “It’s a Wonderful Lifetime” slate, the movie headlines this year’s rollout, with more titles still to be announced, according to Deadline.
In Christmas Everyday, Brandy portrays Francine “Fancy” Ballantine, a driven fashion designer juggling career ambitions and mounting family obligations. After her father’s death, Fancy is intent on preserving his cherished Christmas traditions, while her mother, Evelyn (Debbi Morgan), begins to lose her sight.
The pressure spikes when Fancy agrees to plan the wedding of her bridezilla baby sister, Belle—played by Smith. A burst water pipe wrecks the fairytale setup and brings in rugged, charming contractor Jaylen (Robert C. Riley), who’s tasked with renovating the house. Through the chaos, Fancy learns lessons about faith, family, and the true meaning of Christmas.
Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman (UnReal) co-stars as Germaine, Fancy’s colleague and confidant, adding another voice of reason to the mix. The film also incorporates Brandy’s 2023 holiday single of the same name.
Behind the scenes, Brandy serves as an executive producer alongside Stella Bulochnikov, Dr. Holly Carter, and Ryan Ramsey, with Fernando Szew, Hannah Pillemer, Larry Grimaldi, and Adam Shepard overseeing for Fox Entertainment Studios, which is producing the movie. Roger Bobb directs from a script by Meg DeLoatch and Cameron Ross, and Fox Entertainment Global will handle international distribution.
“The holidays are always about family as part of the festivities, so I’m beyond thrilled to be partnering with Lifetime on this magical holiday project and having my own daughter star with me – even though we are playing sisters!” Brandy said in a statement to the outlet.
