Dwayne Johnson is being credited, albeit inadvertently, for the success of the newest Superman film.

According to The Wrap, the former wrestler and his ex-wife/film partner, Dany Garcia, proposed that the Man of Steel be inserted into Johnson's star vehicle, Black Adam, back in 2022. The idea, according to the pitch meeting with Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, was to position Johnson and Garcia's Seven Bucks Productions as the company at the helm of the DCEU.

Black Adam made headlines for featuring Henry Cavill in a surprise cameo as Superman — and for bombing spectacularly at the box office. In response to the flop, Zaslav didn't choose Seven Bucks to run the DCEU, leaving the door open for James Gunn to launch his reboot of Superman, which ultimately led to the blockbuster success we see today.

That prompted a bevy of posts on X (formerly Twitter) from fans who credited the former wrestler's flop portrayal for Superman's success. "Dwayne johnson is the best thing to happen to dc he was so bad we finally got the superman movie we deserved," wrote one fan.

"When you think about it we should all thank Dwayne Johnson. Because if it weren’t for him, we’d be stuck with his DCEU and wouldn’t have James Gunn, the DCU and David Corenswet as #Superman so thank you Rock. The hierarchy of the DC Universe definitely changed..for the better," wrote another.

"Superman was fire. I feel like I owe Dwayne Johnson a thank you letter for f**king over the dc universe. We wouldn’t have gotten this peak Superman Movie. W @JamesGunn," wrote still another fan.

The excoriation of The Rock was so bad that, for a while, "Thank You Dwayne Johnson" and "Thank You Rock" were trending on X. Check out some of the many posts roasting the former wrestler below.
