Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos' Mother Jacklyn Dead at 78
Bezos wrote a touching tribute to his mother announcing her death.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is mourning the loss of his mother, Jacklyn.
Bezos shared the sad news on Instagram with a lengthy post about his mom, who had him when she was just 17 years old.
Bezos says, "She pounced on the job of loving me with ferocity, brought my amazing dad onto the team a few years later, and then added my sister and brother to her list of people to love, guard, and nourish. For the rest of her life, that list of people to love never stopped growing. She always gave so much more than she ever asked for."
He continues, "After a long fight with Lewy Body Dementia, she passed away today, surrounded by so many of us who loved her — her kids, grandkids, and my dad. I know she felt our love in those final moments. We were all so lucky to be in her life. I hold her safe in my heart forever."
Finally, Bezos ends his note with, "I love you, mom."
Bezos' wife, Lauren Sanchez, also posted her husband's message with a broken heart emoji.
Bezos had her son with his father, Ted Jorgensen, but the two split when the Amazon founder was still very young. She went on to marry Miguel "Mike" Bezos and raised Jeff together. Jorgensen died in 2015
The couple invested $250,000 into Amazon to help get the company up and running, a financial decision that clearly paid off big time in the long run.
Over the years, Bezos was seen at multiple events with her son as they'd pose together on carpets and at fundraisers. In a Mother's Day post honoring his mom back in 2022, Bezos wrote, "Mom, I have no idea how you did what you did… Thank you for sharing your strength and for all the sacrifices you made. I love you.”
Jacklyn was 78 years old.
