Donald Trump Says Hillary Clinton Started the Whole Obama Birther Movement

Republicans want people to believe that Hillary Clinton started the Obama birther movement, but the Washington Post says um, no.

Donald Trump, a longtime birther-turned-guy-who, at the very least, does not correct people when they express their own wackjob birther-esque views, is blaming the whole history of the birther movement on Democrat Hillary Clinton.

The birther movement, as you may remember, was that thing where people tried to say that President Obama was born in Kenya. The whole thing should have ended when Obama released his longform birth certificate from Hawaii, a moment we like to call the presidential mic drop.

But no, even now, we're still talking about it. Except Trump doesn't want to talk about it anymore, so he's trying to push it off on Hillary Clinton, dating back to when she was competing with Obama for the Democratic candidacy. Not so fast, big guy.

Reports from The Washington Post and Politifact are both calling straight up B.S. on Trump's claim.

From the Post, which labeled Trump's claim "wishful thinking."

From Politifact, which gave the claim a "false" on its truth-o-meter (but did stop short of giving it a "pants on fire"):

For what it's worth (which is nothing) Ted Cruz has also said "The whole birther thing was started by the Hillary Clinton campaign in 2008 against Barack Obama."
