Don't Worry, Ashley Madison Hackers Won't Release Your Nudes
Although they did find a ton of dick pics.
If you're an Ashley Madison user, the team of hackers that compromised the website in July will probably share your email address, credit card information, and the details of your profile, but rejoice: Your nudes are safe. In an interview with Motherboard The Impact Team, a.k.a. the team that claims responsibility for the hack, said they won't dump users pictures, chats, and messages, "One-third of which are dick pictures."
The Impact Team also clarified their motives for hacking Ashley Madison and its parent company, Avid Life Media, in the first place:
Apparently the team has been hacking Avid Life Media for years without anyone noticing; the way they tell it, the company's security was laughable. "It was easy. For a company whose main promise is security, it's like you didn't even try," they said. The Impact Team also trash talked Avid Life Media's CEO, Noel Biderman, saying he lied to users about how their credit card information is stored.
The team promised more attacks in future, saying that, "any companies that make 100s of millions profiting off pain of others, secrets, and lies" are potential targets. "Maybe corrupt politicians. If we do, it will be a long time, but it will be total."
