Armie Hammer Says ‘It’s Fun to Ruffle Feathers’ When Asked About Cannibalism Controversy
The actor stayed out of the limelight for three years following allegations of cannibalism and sexual misconduct.
Armie Hammer still contends he isn’t a cannibal.
On a new episode of The Louis Theroux Podcast, the actor denied ever being a cannibal, and at the same time, asserted that the backlash against him was “the greatest thing that ever happened to him,” per The Guardian.
In 2021, Hammer found himself at the center of a controversy after his ex-partner shared text messages online of him saying he had cannibalistic fetishes. The LAPD subsequently investigated him for two years for sexual misconduct following the allegations.
Of those texts, Hammer told Theroux that his saying he was “100 percent a cannibal” was a joke.
“As you'll notice, of all of the text messages that were released, the person who released them, their side was cut out of the entire conversation,” he explained. “That could have been a very funny conversation between two people who were joking and pushing each other and egging each other on.”
When asked if he really is a cannibal, Hammer said, “You know what you have to do to actually be a cannibal? You have to actually eat human flesh. So no.”
He continued, “Sometimes when you're involved with a person and you're dating and you guys are having sex and you are a bit of a provocateur and you are exacerbated by alcohol or drugs or anything like that like It's fun to ruffle feathers and it's fun to push the envelope little by little.”
The 38-year-old remained out of the spotlight for three years following the allegations and recently returned, marking the moment with the launch of his podcast, The Armie Hammertime Podcast last fall.
Last month, he revealed that his career is slowly recovering, telling the Your Mom’s House podcast, “The worm is turning, and it takes time.”
