Emma Watson Handed Six-Month Driving Ban For Speeding in UK
The 'Harry Potter' actress failed to show up for her court hearing.
Emma Watson is restricted from driving in the UK for six months.
CNN reports that the 35-year-old faced the penalty after she was pulled over for speeding in her blue Audi last July. She was driving eight miles per hour over the limit in a 30-mph zone in Oxford, England.
When she didn’t show up for her court hearing, Watson was fined £1,044 ($1,400) and temporarily banned from driving.
According to the BBC, Watson's lawyer, Mark Haslam, told the court that she’s currently a student.
"She is in a position to pay the fine,” he added.
Watson’s former Harry Potter co-star, Zoë Wanamaker, who played Madam Hooch in the franchise series, was also pulled over for speeding last August when she was caught going 46 mph in a 40 mph zone in Berkshire, England. The two actresses reportedly received the same sentence in the same court.
After their respective hearings, the two women’s licenses each had nine penalty points for speeding. The judge then added three more points to their licenses for their speeding incidents, leading to the six-month bans.
Watson has been enrolled in a master’s degree program since 2023 at the University of Oxford, where she’s studying creative writing. The same year, she and her brother launched the sustainable gin brand, Renais Gin.
Watson is best known for playing Hermione Granger in all eight Harry Potter installments, the last of which arrived in 2011. Since then, she’s appeared in Beauty and the Beast, The Bling Ring, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Her last onscreen role was 2019’s Little Women, directed by Greta Gerwig.
ComplexCon returns to Las Vegas on October 25–26, 2025, with over 300 brands and live performances by Young Thug, YEAT & Friends, Peso Pluma, Central Cee, Ken Carson, and more. Get your tickets now.
