Halle Berry exacted her revenge on Adrien Brody on the 2025 Oscars red carpet.

On Sunday evening (March 2), Berry returned a kiss to Brody, 22 years after the actor did the same to her in an infamous moment from the 2003 ceremony.

A clip of their interaction shows Berry approaching and greeting Brody, before planting a kiss on him. Everyone around them cheered, including Brody’s girlfriend, Georgina Chapman.

“That was one hell of a night for him, and for me as well. To be a part of his moment… tonight I had to pay him back,” Berry told Variety on the red carpet. “I’ve seen him out at parties, but this is the first time since that night that I’ve seen him on the red carpet somewhere. He’s nominated this year. He deserved that.”

Back in 2003, Berry presented Brody with the Best Actor award for The Pianist—his first-ever Oscar win. When Brody accepted the award, he kissed her and said, “I bet they didn’t tell you that was in the gift bag.”

“We live in a very conscious time, which is a wonderful thing,” Brody recently told Variety while reflecting on the kiss. “And nothing that I ever do or have done or would’ve done is ever done with the intention of making anyone feel bad.”

This year, Brody has been nominated for his performance as Hungarian-Jewish architect and Holocaust survivor László Tóth in The Brutalist, which has also earned 10 nods, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay.

Berry is the only Black actress who has won Best Leading Actress at the awards show for the 2002 film, Monster’s Ball.
