Milo Ventimiglia lost his home in the Los Angeles fires.

The actor visited his neighborhood with a CBS Evening News reporter for the first time to look at what was left after the fires decimated his and his neighbors’ homes. He evacuated on Tuesday with his pregnant wife, Jarah Mariano—due any day now—and their dog.

When asked what it was like to stand in his home, which was scorched, Ventimiglia replied, “Heavy.”

You start thinking about the memories,” he continued, “and then you see your neighbors’ houses and everything around—your heart just breaks.”

The 47-year-old starred as Jack Pearson in This Is Us, in which the character’s home burns down to the ground in a fire. “It’s not lost on me, life imitating art,” Ventimiglia said. “We’ll make due.”

In addition to his role in This Is Us, Milo is known for playing Jess Mariano in Gilmore Girls.

Other celebrities lost their homes in the fire, including Paris Hilton, Anthony Hopkins, Anna Faris, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, Adam Brody and Leighton Meester, Jhené Aiko, and Jeff Bridges, per TMZ. At least 10 people have died in the blaze, which began on Tuesday morning in Pacific Palisades, a Los Angeles County neighborhood east of Malibu.
