The Inside Out art project, by JR, will be shown for the first time in Canada during Toronto’s Nuit Blanche on October 3rd. New York and Paris-based award-winning artist, known simply as, JR started the Inside Out Project back in 2011 after he was awarded a TED prize for his initiative. Since then the project has travelled to over 120 countries around the world breaking down socioeconomic, generational and racial barriers. Since its inception, over 250,000 people have participated. Will you be the next?

The guiding principle driving the Inside Out project is to create a global art movement; the project allows participants to be photographed and have their portraits re-purposed as large-scale street style pasting in an attempt to reclaim public spaces. JR is interested in participatory art that breaks down the divide between the actors from the spectators - a space where spectator is also spectacle. This is accomplished through the public contribution of their stories and portraits, simply put they make it. In other words, artist and subject become one.

Torontonians can participate in Inside Out already thanks to a photo booth that has been travelling all over the city and is now stationed at Nathan Phillips Square. The portraits will then be installed by JR, the artist, at Nathan Phillips Square. Why Nathan Phillips Square? JR wanted people to be able to re- claim the space as their own.

"I wish for you to stand up for what you care about by participating in a global art project, and together we'll turn the world...INSIDE OUT." – JR
