Facebook is sending emails to select users regarding its $20 million payout from a recent class-action lawsuit. The social network owes certain users up to $10 for its advertising of "sponsored stories." But there is a small catch before you receive a check.

The settlement came from Facebook's unlawful use of "the names, profile pictures, photographs, likenesses, and identities of Facebook users in the United States to advertise or sell products and services through Sponsored Stories without obtaining those users’ consent.” Even though Zuck & Co. claimed innocence, the social network ultimately decided to settle to avoid a lawsuit.

There is, however, some fine print that protects Facebook from giving cash to it's 150 million U.S. users.

So if too many people try to make a claim, beyond Facebook's means, the company will just donate the $20 million. If you want to try your luck, make sure you check your inbox and spam folder for an email from "legalnotice@facebookmail.com" or you can make a claim here, on the official settlement website.
