As of Today, Nokia Smartphones Are Officially Under Microsoft Control

The months long journey has come to an end.

As of today, Microsoft's deal to buy Nokia has official closed, and everything that was "smartphone" about Nokia is now "Microsoft Mobile." The company announced it was buying Nokia's Devices and Services division back in September of last year, and it took until now for governmental regulatory agencies around the world to approve the $7.2 billion acquisition. “Today we welcome the Nokia Devices and Services business to our family. The mobile capabilities and assets they bring will advance our transformation,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said.

From this point on, Microsoft is no longer a software company—we can now add hardware into the mix.
