Halle Berry Calls Jamie Foxx an 'Icon' Following Comedy Special
On 'What Had Happened Was,' Foxx joked about hugging the actress after his stroke recovery.
Halle Berry shared her love for Jamie Foxx following the premiere of his Netflix comedy special What Had Happened Was.
In the special, which is Golden Globe-nominated for Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television, Foxx extensively spoke about his brain bleed that led to a stroke.
In the aftermath of his recovery, the actor-comedian said that he had emotional run-ins with T.I. and Candace Parker but didn't break into tears when he hugged Berry.
"I didn't cry as much," he joked about being embraced by the fellow Academy Award winner. "'Cause Halle just rushed me and hugged me so tight. I was like 'Ooh, Lord have mercy, Jesus.' This here is Halle Berry, and she don't realize how fucking sexy she is."
He continued, "And I don't want to blow the moment 'cause it was heartfelt. She said, 'Jamie, oh my God!' And she hugged me. I said, 'Ooh, oh my gosh.' She said, 'There's so much I wanted to tell you!' And I said, 'There's so much I gotta tell you!' Cause she was hugging me, and I'm like, 'Oh my God. Please don't let me disrespect this moment.'
"So I had to relay ... cause the hug was so nice, I had to relay to my pickle. 'Hey, stand down, n***a. This ain't that kind of hug.' ... He shot back, 'N***a, that's Halle Berry!'"
But the Never Let Go actress was humored by the moment and responded to Foxx in an X post on Thursday.
"When an ICON like @iamjamiefoxx makes you a part of his iconic journey!" she wrote. "I love you Foxxy and so glad you're still here! If you haven't seen ‘What Had Happened Was’ on @netflix do it right now and get ready to laugh, cry, and count your blessings."
Berry last supported the special when Foxx teased it on Instagram earlier this month. "[Heart] U J....always will!" she wrote to the Django Unchained star. He replied, "Love u back real tears."
