Halle Berry Fires Back at Ex-Husband David Justice After He Said She Wasn’t ‘Motherly’
Justice recently commented on the actress not being "motherly" during their short-lived marriage.
Halle Berry hilariously clapped back at her ex-husband David Justice after he claimed that the actress wasn't nurturing throughout their marriage.
Last week, the retired professional baseball player appeared on Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson-hosted podcast All the Smoke, where he recounted his marriage to Berry.
The ex-spouses were married from 1993 to 1997 and divorced shortly after allegations surfaced that Justice abused the Academy Award winner. In 1996, Berry told People Magazine that she sustained hearing loss from domestic violence, although she didn't name her abuser.
Along with denying that he assaulted his ex-wife, around the 30-minute mark of the video below, Justice said that Berry wasn't "motherly" during their marriage.
"I was young and had only been in honestly one real relationship before her," Justice told Barnes. "My understanding, my wisdom around relationships just wasn't vast. So, I'm looking at my mom and I'm a Midwest guy. So in my mind I'm thinking a wife, at that time, should cook, clean, [and be] traditional."
"And then I'm thinking, OK, if we have kids, you know, is this the woman I want to have kids with and build a family with," he continued. "And at that time, as a young guy, she don't cook, don't clean, don't really seem like... motherly."
The clip went viral on social media, with many slamming Justice for his seemingly sexist remarks and possibly being jealous while the actress was in the prime of her career.
Berry herself entered the conversation on Thursday (Aug. 14) with pictures herself on vacation and sunbathing with her boyfriend, musician Van Hunt.
"Phew…! cooking, cleaning and mothering," the mother of two captioned the photo on X, formerly Twitter.
As Berry's followers applauded her for subtly responding to Justice, she followed up with a meme of Tiffany "New York" Pollard dismissing a contestant on former dating show Flavor of Love.
Berry, who has been divorced three times, has been dating Hunt since 2020 and is taking her time in accepting the musician's marriage proposal after past heartbreaks.
In June, Berry called Hunt the man she "should have married" while the two were on TODAY With Jenna and Friends.
"And I feel like I should, we should get married, but it’s not because we feel like we have to," Berry said. "I think it’s something that we would like to do just because we want that expression."
