Jaleel White and John Stamos Channel Uncle Jesse and Urkel to Recreate Iconic ‘Full House’ Scene
Playing Steve Urkel, White appeared in a 1991 episode of 'Full House.'
Jaleel White and John Stamos revisited a Full House and Family Matters crossover episode in am Instagram reel posted over the weekend.
In the reel, the actors showed a clip from 1991 Full House episode "Stephanie Gets Framed," where character Jesse Katsopolis (Stamos) taught Steve Urkel (White) how to walk "cool". In reality, Stamos and White recreated the scene while outside before breaking character and embracing each other with laughter.
"TGIF… Urkel’s still cooler than Uncle Jesse," the caption read.
While the "Stephanie Gets Framed" episode created the TGIF sitcom block on throughout the '90s, it would be the shows' only crossover moment. Decades later, White was approached about rebooting Family Matters with an updated version of Urkel, similar to Full House spinoff Fuller House. In a promotional video for his 2024 memoir Growing Up Urkel, White refused the reboot, not wanting to "copy" the Fuller House formula.
"What I imagine for any reboot effort would be inspired by what really happened. How 'Family Matters' came to pass is actually a greater story than what was made up inside the show," White said in the video below.
While Full House lasted for eight seasons from 1987 to 1995, it was probably for the best that Family Matters ended after eight seasons in 1997, as White damaged his vocal cords from years of playing Urkel.
