Hollywood Unlocked founder Jason Lee's company Healthcare Unlocked has sued a medical organization it once teamed with for alleged fraud and misconduct.

Filed on Tuesday (August 5) in the Superior Court of Los Angeles, Lee has sued Enhance Health for damages including breach of contract, misrepresentation, fraud and unfair business practices. Healthcare Unlocked was founded in 2023 as a joint venture to encourage health care access for underserved Americans.

In documents obtained by Complex, the filing explains that Healthcare Unlocked and Enhance entered a partnership in June 2023, with Enhance allegedly agreeing to provide services. HU claimed that the company agreed to pay Enhance $9 per member monthly in exchange for platform security, maintaining the company's book of business and providing thorough client information.

"At all relevant times, Healthcare Unlocked maintained a substantial book of business consisting of approximately 10,659 health insurance members, representing millions of dollars in annual healthcare coverage for families and individuals across multiple states," the filing reads.

HU now claims that Enhance embarked on a "coordinated scheme" where 10,000 members were stolen, which allegedly left "thousands of families vulnerable during critical enrollment periods."

In addition, Lee's company accuses Enhance of creating a "two-tiered system" where they were required to use an inferior platform, while competitor JetMedia had access to a superior one. The lawsuit adds that this caused an "unlevel playing field that violated antitrust principles and destroyed fair competition."

HU claims that because of "gross negligence," they've been afflicted by business losses of $6.3 million. The company seeks at least $10 million for compensatory damages, restitution, and attorneys' fees and costs.

HU was officially launched with Enhance Health in November 2023, with both companies wanting to help clients safely "navigate the open enrollment process."

"As a longtime healthcare advocate, the Healthcare Unlocked platform holds significant importance for me and my team," Lee stated at the time. "Many celebrities, including myself, have experienced periods in their lives when healthcare was not readily accessible. Enhance Health was the perfect partner in this initiative. Their technology based enrollment process makes finding healthcare painless and easy for everyday Americans, and their commitment to increasing coverage in underserved communities will drive the Healthcare Unlocked mission forward," he concluded.
