Kylie Jenner Felt Like 'Such a Failure' for Taking a Year to Choose Son Aire's Name
Aire, the son of Jenner and Travis Scott, was originally named Wolf before his named was changed a year after his birth.
Kylie Jenner needed a year to settle on a name for her 2-year-old son, Aire, but the decision didn't come without some stress.
The Kylie Cosmetics founder, who appears on the new cover of British Vogue, spoke to the publication about experiencing postpartum depression after the births of her daughter, Stormi and son Aire, both whom she shares with rapper Travis Scott. But Jenner, who recently celebrated her 27th birthday, confessed that the birth of her second child introduced “major baby blues” and caused her to be “emotional over things that I probably wouldn’t be that emotional about [typically].”
“On the phone with my mom all day hysterically crying, saying, ‘I can’t figure out his name,’” Jenner said about her son’s name change. Upon his birth in February, Aire was named ‘Wolf,’ before his parents settled on his official name a year later.
“Now my advice to all my friends having children is pick the name before, because when the hormones hit you can’t make decisions. You can’t,” Jenner continued. “When I met him, he was just the most beautiful thing to me and I couldn’t believe just how perfect he was. I felt like such a failure that I couldn’t name him. He deserved so much more than that. It just really triggered me.”
Jenner also shared that along with "Wolf," Aire was briefly given an entirely different name, which the Sprinter founder decided to scrap.
“My son’s name was actually Knight for a long time and my daughter, still to this day, is like, ‘Do you remember when Aire’s name was Knight?’ And I’m like, ‘No,’” Jenner said. “And she’s like, ‘That was so funny, Mom. I like Knight better.’ And I’m like: ‘You know what, we are not doing this again.’”
In a 2023 episode of Hulu's The Kardashians, Jenner revealed to her longtime friend Anastasia “Stassie” Karanikolaou that she felt pressured to name her son Wolf upon his birth, although the name didn't fit him. On choosing the Hebrew name 'Aire,' which means 'lion of God,' Jenner said she "always wanted a name for him that had meaning."
