Anthony, who has plaque psoriasis, has wondered if people were "whispering" about her at big events.

Having plaque psoriasis has nearly shaken La La Anthony's self-esteem.

The actress and media personality, 43, has suffered from plaque psoriasis for more than a decade and, last year, partnered with Amgen to speak out about the chronic inflammatory condition. Plaque psoriasis causes dry skin, dandruff, itching, burning and scaliness, all of which Anthony has experienced both publicly and privately, as recently told WWD.

“Plaque psoriasis has affected my confidence at times, for sure — I would be lying if I said it hadn’t,” she told the outlet. Anthony also explained that she felt heightened self-consciousness "during high-profile events" and wondered if guests were "looking at or whispering about my flaky, rough patches or if someone may ask me what they are."

But after her skin diagnosis, Anthony explained that she "stepped in to know what it is." "Many people don’t realize that plaque psoriasis is not just a skin condition, but an autoimmune disease that starts inside the body," she continued.

In a statement with Amgen last year, it was shared that when Anthony began experiencing plaque psoriasis, she mistook it as just dry skin. But as the symptoms became more pronounced, Anthony's worries also grew.

"A lot of my life is public, and people are used to seeing me on camera – but some of my biggest struggles with plaque psoriasis are in the moments where no one is watching," she revealed. "Like leading up to this one big premiere – I remember I was hyper-aware of all the photos that were about to be taken, and it was distracting for me before the event. I didn’t want anyone to see my skin and think 'what is that?'"
