Olivia Munn Recalls Pulling Eyelashes Out Due to Stress of Tabloid Shots of Her With Chris Pine

Paparazzi unexpectedly caught the actors while they dated in the last decade.

Comments about her brief relationship with Chris Pine caused Olivia Munn to obsessively pull her eyelashes.

The actress discussed the painful habit in the June 30 episode of podcast Armchair Expert With Dax Shepard, and explained it began when paparazzi caught her and Pine together.

Around the 6:30 minute mark, Munn opened up about having trichotillomania, a disorder where a person feels urges to pull out their body hair. "There's a sensation. It's probably not even real, but I'll feel like, 'Oh, this eyelash feels like it's gonna come out,' even though it's not," Munn told Shepard and co-host Monica Padman.

Munn said she felt the "satisfaction" and "immediate regret" of hair pulling, which intensified while she dated Chris Pine around 2010. The Your Friends & Neighbors star called Pine "amazing" and said that they caught up during SNL50, but revealed that the two were busted by the paps during a date.

"So there was a paparazzi shot of he and I, and it was the first time I was in the tabloids," Munn recounted.

Munn added that she was at a "very small" sponsored event for a weed brand and asked The Daily Show for "the ugliest dress" they had so she could make it on the "worst-dressed list."

But photographers weren't interested in what the actress was wearing but more so in her fling with Pine, as the two were snapped outside of his apartment, both in regular clothes.

"There were paparazzi outside his house because he had been in Star Trek. And they caught photos of me," Munn said. "I was like, 'Oh my god.' And when it got out, one of my friends was like, "Hey, you're dating Chris Pine.'"

Munn added that she did a "horrible thing and read the comments," and saw that one person accused her of setting up a pap stroll.

"'Who's carrying a clutch during the day?'" Munn said the commenter wrote, adding, "That began my trichotillomania."

Munn, who's been married to John Mulaney since 2024, says her trichotillomania to obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) were relieved through hypnotherapy, which she told Self in 2014.
