Paris Jackson celebrated her five-year sobriety from alcohol and heroin in a new Instagram reel.

On Tuesday (Jan. 7), the 26-year-old singer-songwriter, model, and daughter of the late Michael Jackson, dubbed herself an "alcoholic and a heroin addict." The caption was next to a montage of herself attending events, going hiking, spending time with her fiancé, Justin Long, and other activities throughout her recovery process.

"today marks 5 years clean & sober from all drugs and alcohol. to say that i’m thankful would be a poor euphemism," Jackson wrote. "gratitude hardly scratches the surface. it’s because i’m sober that i get to smile today."

"i get to make music. i get to experience the joy of loving my dogs and cat. i get to feel heartbreak in all it’s glory. i get to grieve. i get to laugh. i get to dance. i get to trust. i feel the sun on my skin and it’s warm. i’ve found that life keeps happening regardless of whether i’m sober or not, but today i get to show up for it."

The former Swarm star concluded by calling the reel "a little snapshot of what has been possible because of my sobriety." She continued, "and my god i can’t believe i almost missed it all."

In 2017, Jackson revealed to the Rolling Stone that her addiction, which began at 15, was triggered years after the passing of her musician father, who died unexpectedly in June 2009 at 50 due to acute propofol intoxication. The then-teenager also resorted to self-harm and a suicide attempt by pill overdosing.

"It was just self-hatred," Jackson told the publication, explaining that it was from "low self-esteem, thinking that I couldn’t do anything right, not thinking I was worthy of living anymore."

The Instagram post comes one month after Jackson was proposed to by Long, after just over two years of dating.
