Tia Mowry Clarifies Recent Comments About Sister Tamera: 'We Have a Closeness and Beautiful Connection’
On her new reality television show 'Tia Mowry: My Next Act,' the actress insinuated that she wished to still be "close" with her twin sister.
No matter what social media may think, actress Tia Mowry still has "love" for her twin sister, Tamera Mowry-Housley.
In a confessional scene during the sneak peek of her new We TV reality show, Tia Mowry: My Next Act, the 46-year-old mentioned wishing she was "still close" with her sister. This concerned fans that the two had become estranged, particularly in light of Tia's 2023 divorce from her ex-husband, actor Cory Hardict.
"[I wish] I could pick up the phone and call her, but that’s just not where we are right now," Tia said around the 3-minute mark of the clip below.
But in a new interview with Us Weekly, Tia clarified that she was referring to the physical distance she currently has with Tamera. Tia, who was married to Hardict from 2008 to 2023, resides in Los Angeles with her two children, Cree, 13, and Cairo, 6, Tamera lives in Napa Valley with her husband, Adam Housley, and their children, Aden, 11, and daughter Ariah, 9.
"You could hear it from me, and this is basically what I was insinuating: I feel like as we grow up, we all start our own families and their children need to lean on them. We begin to take on new roles and responsibilities within our lives," Tia told the publication on Tuesday (September 24). "That is what that was all about."
She continued, "In these transitions in life, sometimes you just want a hug and you just want someone to be as accessible as they used to be, and that is not the case. It’s called life."
While social media had a field day with pointing out the differences between the sisters, reposting scenes from their former reality show Tia & Tamera, Tia insisted that she still has a "connection" with her sister.
"I love my sister very much. She loves me very much," Tia added. "We have a closeness and a beautiful connection. But that’s what that was all about. It’s just how life unfolds, and it happens with many families."
On the reactions that the sneak peek of her show got online, Tia called it "not surprising."
"When you’ve been in this industry for over 30 years, things are always taken out of context and it is what it is," she said. "The only thing that I can do is control my behaviors and be the best person that I could possibly be, and that’s what both of us are. We are incredible, inspiring examples, and we have been that all our lives. So, why change that now?"
But the distance between the two ladies could concern more than where they currently live. In May, Tamera told Entertainment Tonight that she wasn't asked to appear in Tia's new show.
“Tia is living her life right now, and Tia is doing Tia,” Tamera said.
On the possibility of being on the show, Tamera added, "Uh, she didn’t ask me. So I take that as, no! No, she’s like, 'This is my story,' and you know, I can only respect that."
