Best horror films 2025

2025 has been a stellar year for movies so far, and there's a lot more to come. As fall/winter approaches (and of course, Halloween), horror movie season begins. There are a lot of very exciting projects coming out in the remainder of the year and we've come up with a list of films that should be added to your calendars when planning your upcoming trips to the cinema. These are the 16 best horror films that will be coming out in the rest of 2025.

I Know What You Did Last Summer (July 18)

28 years after the original Tower Bay murders, another hook-wielding maniac terrorizes a group of teenagers who hide a horrible secret. This franchise had a big impact on the horror genre in the 90s, and many view the original as a classic. This one should be fun—at the very least considering Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reprise their roles from the first two.

The Banished (July 18)

A young woman named Grace and a guide set off into the wilderness to find her brother who ran away to a hippie commune, and has never been heard from since. Things go awry and Grace enters in a fight for survival in the wild, while attempting to rescue her brother. The woods have always been a great setting for horror films and this movie seems to keep up with that tradition. Plus, what’s scarier than a hippie commune?

The Home (July 25)

Pete Davidson plays a man working at a retirement home where nothing is at it seems. The residents harbor deep dark secrets, and the building itself seems to have a sentient mind as well. Davidson’s character attempts to uncover the truth behind this home, as well as discover things about his upbringing as a foster child himself. The Home has a very interesting premise, plus Davidson seems to be giving it his all in the trailers.

Together (July 30)

Dave Franco and Alison Brie star in Together, which will undoubtedly be a major talking point of the year in terms of horror entries. The real-life husband and wife play a couple who start to experience strange happenings to their mind and bodies. This movie looks absolutely insane, with a very Cronenberg vibe (and that’s a good thing).

Weapons (August 8)

One night, 17 children from the same classroom suddenly disappear after they are seen willingly running away from home, and the community is left reeling as they try to figure out what caused the children to vanish. With stars like Josh Brolin, and Julia Garner, this movie should deliver on the creepy factor, especially since it’s being directed by Zach Cregger, the man behind Barbarian.

Jimmy and Stiggs (August 15)

Eli Roth brings us Jimmy and Stiggs—a super colorful super gory horror entry. Written, directed, and starring Joe Begos, Jimmy and Stiggs focuses on Jimmy Lang, a filmmaker driven to an unhinged bender after a series of unfortunate events, during which he is abducted by aliens. Fearing their return, Jimmy and his friend Staggs prepare for battle in what can only be described as a rainbow of destruction and mayhem. This is going to be a cult favorite for sure, so be sure to check your brain at the door for this mayhem trip.

The Conjuring: Last Rites (September 5)

In what would be the Warren’s last paranormal case, Conjuring Last Rites tells the story that made Ed and Lorraine Warren retire as they helped the Smurl family after they moved into a new house that started to show signs of demonic infestation (naturally). The Conjuring movies, even at their worst, are always a spooky fun time, and hopefully they pull out all the stops for this installment.

The Long Walk (September 12)

Based on the Stephen King novel, The Long Walk tells the story of a dystopian United States where every year, 100 young men enter a contest and must continuously walk until they can no longer continue. At that point, they're executed. The winner is the last person walking, who can then determine his own prize. When you throw in the fact that Luke Skywalker is in this film, you can be assured that we are seated for this one.

HIM (September 19)

HIM is about a young football prospect who is invited to train at the compound of a legendary quarterback who takes the young player under his wing and shows him the price of fame at the cost of his own humanity. Jordan Peele has a very consistent record in the horror space, and this movie looks like it'll be another great addition to his resume.

The Strangers: Chapter 2 (September 26)

The sequel to the Strangers reboot follows the exploits of the three masked maniacs that seek to inflict pain and misery on unsuspecting families, who are simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. The first installment of this new Strangers timeline wasn’t received with glowing reviews but hopefully this movie corrects the course.

Black Phone 2 (October 17)

The sequel to the original Blumhouse hit, Black Phone 2 follows the further exploits of Ethan Hawke’s The Grabber. The sole survivor of The Grabber, Finn struggles with life after his kidnapping. Despite The Grabber seemingly meeting his demise at the end of the first film (spoiler, but c’mon, the movie came out over a year ago) Finn’s sister starts to receive calls in her dreams from the Black Phone. Could the end of the Grabber have been exaggerated? We're very eager to find out.

Bone Lake (October 24)

Two couples are accidentally booked into the same rental house for their vacations. Nothing is as it seems, as the couple soon start to learn dark truths about each other, which lead to bloodshed and mayhem. It looks like a scary, sexual, and bloody film, which will have its fair share of fans who love The White Lotus vibe.

Keeper (November 14)

From director Oz Perkins (The Monkey, Longlegs), Keeper is the story of a couple that travels to a secluded cabin. When the woman is suddenly left alone in the cabin, she is forced to confront a sinister presence as well as its sordid past. Not much else is known about the film currently, but Oz Perkins has been building up a pretty good reputation after Longlegs and The Monkey, so this should be an interesting project.

Troll 2 (December 1)

The sequel to the cult classic Norwegian monster film Troll, Troll 2 tells the continuing story of Nora, Andreas, and Captain Kris as a new Troll awakens—more powerful and dangerous than the first—and the crew will need all the help they can get to take it down. The original Troll was a surprise hit for monster lovers, and for many this sequel is long overdue.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 (December 5)

The follow-up to the hit movie based on the extremely popular Five Nights at Freddy’s video game franchise, Blumhouse is giving us another romp in the Chuck E. Cheese from hell. Not much is known about the plot of the sequel, but it will surely pick up where the last left off, and see Mike the security guard battle more animatronic nightmares. Despite the first movie being PG-13, it delivered on the scares and the fun that made the video games such a hit, and this sequel should follow suit.

Silent Night Deadly Night (December 12)

Reimagining the 1984 slasher classic, Mike P. Nelson tells the holiday horror tale of a child who witnesses his family murdered by a man in a Santa Claus outfit, who in turn grows up to be a killer Santa himself. The movie could honestly go either way, as not much has been shown about this upcoming iteration. This is the last horror movie releasing in 2025, and hopefully it ends the year with a bang.
