Justine Sacco Issues Statement After IAC Fires Her For Racist Tweet
When keeping it real goes wrong.
Here's a question: How does the PR Director of a major media company fail to notice the bigotry in her own tweet? Like, c'mon lady, YOU ARE THE HEAD OF PUBLIC RELATIONS AT IAC.
Yesterday we reported on Justine Sacco, who tweeted a "stunningly off-color 'joke' before embarking on a flight to Africa." It read: "Going to Africa. Hope I don't get AIDS. Just kidding. I'm white." As expected, when Sacco landed in South Africa she was fired from her post at IAC and has since issued an apology.
What's more, the URL justinesacco.com now directs readers to a donation page for Aid For Africa—just in case the apology wasn't enough. Her Twitter account has since been deleted.
