Kevin Costner's Lawyer Slams Sexual Harassment Claim After Text Messages Emerge
The actor's lawyer strongly denied the accusations.
Kevin Costner's lawyer didn't hold back.
The lawyer slammed a sexual harassment claim filed by stunt performer Devyn LaBella, who filed a lawsuit against the actor.
To be clear, Costner is not personally accused of sexual harassment.
Rather, the actor is the subject of a lawsuit filed by the stunt performer who has made accusations about an alleged "unscripted rape scene on the Horizon 2 movie set," TMZ reported.
Marty Singer, Costner's lawyer, pushed back on the claim to TMZ.
"Ms. LaBella was doing a rehearsal on an Insert Shot for a scripted scene. There was no intimacy or anything sexual in the shot. There was tugging on a dress while she was fully clothed in a dress with long bloomers lying down next to a male actor," he told the site.
"Numerous witnesses have contradicted Ms. LaBella's meritless claims. She herself texted her supervisor after she wrapped stating, 'Thank you for these wonderful weeks,'" he added to TMZ.
The lawyer's comments came after LaBella amended her lawsuit on June 18, according to US Weekly. She filed the lawsuit against Costner and Territory Pictures in May.
In the amended filing, LaBella included text messages she says she sent to the film’s intimacy coordinator, US Weekly reported.
“I wanted to discuss yesterdays [sic] abomination when we both have a chance,” LaBella, 30, wrote, according to that site. “I was put in a really wrong position and it’s really affected me.”
“Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear this Devyn," the coordinator responded, per the filing. “Let’s talk through it.”
Among other things, LaBella also texted, according to US Weekly: “Why was a stunt double doing this non-stunt work — especially given the sensitivity of it? Who is gonna take responsibility for the abuse of power …”
Costner directed the scene in question, according to US Weekly.
According to the New York Post, LaBella also claims that she was not hired back to work on the next film in the Horizon series.
