At 1 a.m. on Wednesday, a man was seen peddling a baby dogfish shark out of a disposable cooler on the J train—like most legitimate pet salesmen. His asking price was $100 for the shark, which he said he caught after it “bit him in the ass” on Coney Island. Patrick Kwan, New York Director of the Humane Society of the United States, called the man’s treatment of the shark “cruel and inhumane.”

Apparently, the man thought the passengers on the J-train after midnight would be receptive to illegally purchasing his (possibly dead) shark. Unsurprisingly, PETA released a statement expressing its displeasure over the man’s actions.
