Grand Theft Hamlet, a documentary that combines Shakespeare's Hamlet with the popular video game franchise Grand Theft Auto, has been acquired by the streaming platform and film distributor Mubi.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Grand Theft Hamlet follows two unemployed actors in the UK, Sam Crane and his friend Mark Oosterveen, who tried to stage a production of Hamlet within the open world of Grand Theft Auto during the 2021 COVID shutdown.

Grand Theft Hamlet premiered at SXSW in March and won the documentary feature award.

The documentary, which was described as "innovative, highly amusing, and often touching" by THR contributing film critic Leslie Felperin, will premiere in the UK on Oct. 15 at the BFI London Film Festival.

Mubi plans on releasing Grand Theft Hamlet early next year.
