Angelina Jolie Urges Brad Pitt to Drop Multi-Million Dollar Winery Lawsuit: 'End the Fighting'
Pitt sued his ex for selling her stakes in Chateau Miraval SA without his consent.
Angelina Jolie is ready to move on.
According to legal documents obtained by Entertainment Weekly, the Oscar-winning actress has called on Brad Pitt to “end the fighting” and drop his hefty lawsuit over their winery. The former couple invested in Chateau Miraval SA in 2008 and split their shares 50/50 following their split in 2016. Angelina and Brad maintained joint ownership of the company until 2021, when the former decided to sell her half of the shares to a Russian vodka oligarch.
It was roughly a year later when Pitt sued his ex for $67 million plus damages, claiming Jolie breached their contract by selling her stakes without his consent. Although Brad wanted to buy her out of the company, Angelina reportedly refused the offer as it required her to sign a sweeping non-disclosure agreement that aimed to conceal Brad’s “personal misconduct.”
"While Angelina again asks Mr. Pitt to end the fighting and finally put their family on a clear path toward healing, unless Mr. Pitt withdraws his lawsuit, Angelina has no choice but to obtain the evidence necessary to prove his allegations wrong," Murphy said in a statement to EW.
As part of the legal dispute, Jolie's attorneys have asked Pitt to turn over third-party communications related to a 2016 airplane incident in which Brad allegedly abused Angelina and their kids. Pitt's legal team called the request a “sensationalist fishing expedition,” as their client had already submitted documents related to the flight. His attorneys have since filed a motion to dismiss Angelina’s request.
“If Jolie’s requests were really about ‘what happened on that plane’ as she claims, Pitt’s offer should have sufficed,” the filing read. “Jolie, however, rejected Pitt’s compromise and moved to compel his communications with third parties—including his most trusted advisors—about such sensitive issues as the therapy he voluntarily undertook after the flight incident in an effort to better himself, ‘drug and alcohol testing’ he has allegedly undergone, his alleged ‘overuse or abuse of alcohol’ and other actions taken in the aftermath of the flight.”
Angelina’s team fired back, arguing that the motion to dismiss underscored Brad’s true motives in the extensive court battle.
“In doing so, Pitt placed squarely at issue why he tried to punish and control Angelina by demanding a newly expanded NDA to cover his personal misconduct and abuse,” Angelina’s attorney, Paul Murphy, said in a statement to Page Six. “Those actions are central to these proceedings. We are not at all surprised Mr. Pitt is afraid to turn over the documents demonstrating these facts.”
