Although it’s been years since Daniel Craig’s 007 swan song, we have yet to receive word on which actor will fill his James Bond shoes. Of course, fans have offered up a few suggestions, ranging from Idris Elba amd Aaron Taylor-Johnson to Lashana Lynch and Tom Hardy. So, who does Craig think should take over the iconic role? His answer was as honest as it was blunt.

“If you were to pass the James Bond torch, who would you love to see play him?” Variety asked Craig during a joint interview with his Queer co-star Drew Starkey.

“I don’t care,” Craig flatly replied.

It’s evident that the 56-year-old English actor doesn’t dwell on the future of the James Bond franchise, as he even struggled to recall how many 007 films he’d starred in.

“I’m gonna get it wrong,” he said when Variety asked about his Bond filmography.

Starkey also couldn’t recall the exact number of Craig-starring Bond flicks, so he simply replied, “Too many.”

“Exactly,” Craig said with a laugh. "I'd have to count them. I don't know."

Craig made his Bond debut in 2006’s Casino Royale. He reprised the role in four more films: Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015), and No Time to Die (2021).

The actor spoke about his James Bond exit in 2021 interview with Total Film magazine, saying he didn’t expect to return after Spectre.

“I thought I was probably physically not capable of doing another. For me, it was very cut and dried that I wasn’t coming back,” he told the outlet. “I went and did other things. I got some separation. My family forgave me for being away from home for that length of time.”

Craig said he chose to do a fifth Bond movie after producers presented some interesting plot lines.

“We started talking about it and I went, ‘There might be a story we need to finish here,’” he recalled. “Something we started in Casino Royale. Something to do with Vesper (played by Eva Green) and Spectre, and something that was connected, in a way. It started to formulate. And I thought, ‘Here we go.’

“In terms of closing the story, the circle is complete now,” he continued. “It feels emotionally satisfying.”
