'Deadpool & Wolverine' Popcorn Bucket Draws Horny Reactions—And a Response From 'Dune' Director (UPDATE)
The design pokes fun at the suggestive 'Dune 2' popcorn bucket, aptly dubbed the "wormussy."
UPDATED 6/27, 8:45 p.m. ET: Dune director Denis Villeneuve weighed in on the suggestive Deadpool & Wolverine popcorn bucket and the comparisons it drew to the viral sandworm design for his sci-fi sequel.
"They are tremendously jealous of our bucket," Villeneuve recently told CTV's Etalk. "And they are doing their best to try to bring something horrific to the world, but the Dune bucket is unmatchable I think."
Villeneuve clarified he doesn't dislike the Deadpool bucket, it just couldn't compete with Dune: Part Two's NSFW container.
"I'm just saying it was difficult to beat the Dune bucket," he continued. "It was, like, one of a kind."
The 56-year-old director dished out his opinion at the start of June, but it's just now going viral on X:

The Deadpool & Wolverine popcorn bucket has been unveiled. And, yes, it’s as suggestive as Kevin Feige promised.
Fans got a first look at the design on Thursday, May 30, more than a month after the Marvel Studios president teased what he and his team had in store.
“We’ve asked Deadpool to design a popcorn bucket for Deadpool & Wolverine,” Feige said of the threequel during CinemaCon 2024, before alluding to the NSFW Dune 2 popcorn bucket, widely known as “wormussy.”
“And I don’t want to spoil it, but I will say, there are some movies that inadvertently make crude and rude popcorn buckets, and then there are popcorn buckets designed by Deadpool,” he continued.
Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds showcased the design in a promo video that was equal parts titillating and funny. The clip begins with Deadpool caressing the shiny plastic collectible shaped like Wolverine’s helmeted head. Popcorn begins spilling into the wide-open mouth before butter drips down the mutant’s face. On the side of the bucket is a scrawled-on message that reads, “Designed by Deadpool.”
“Years from now they will look back at 2024 as the year the War of the Popcorn Buckets began,” Reynolds, 47, captioned the video.
Hugh Jackman, who's reprising his Wolverine role at age 55, reshared the teaser on Instagram along with the caption, “Don’t try to butter me up.”
It’s unclear if the bucket is official merch or simply a promotional gag. Regardless, the design proved to be quite polarizing among Marvel fans, as some were clearly amused by the suggestive approach, while others believed it was too forced.
Deadpool & Wolverine was directed by Shawn Levy and will arrive more than six years after Deadpool 2. The film—which also stars Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, and Leslie Uggams—will hit theaters on July 26.
