Two homes were destroyed yesterday when a military jet crashed into a residential area in Southern California, officials say.

The Associated Press reports that the Harrier AV-8B crashed in a front yard in Imperial, Calif. around 4:20 p.m. yesterday. The impact sent debris into the roof of one home, while an explosion destroyed another and left one more "badly damaged."

Witness Adriana Ramos, who lives less than a block away from the crash, said it felt like "a bomb was thrown in [her] backyard."

1st Lt. Jose Negrete said there were no injuries, as the pilot managed to eject from the plane. He was eventually taken to a hospital for treatment, then released.
