Wildfires Lead to State of Emergency in San Diego

A second-consecutive day of fires strengthened by reckless winds and soaring temperatures resulted in a state of emergency being declared in San Diego County yesterday.

The Los Angeles Times reports that over half a dozen brush fires prompted the evacuations of homes, schools, and businesses while also causing hectic traffic and wearing response teams thin. The Times adds that the Poinsettia blaze in Carlsbad was the worst, spanning hundreds of acres while jumping between expensive neighborhoods.

Carlsbad Fire Chief Michael Davis said there's "days of work to be done," and one homeowner described the entire ordeal as "a scene from Armageddon."
