Black Passengers Booted From Spirit Airlines Flight Accuse Airline of Discrimination
"Why is that six black people got kicked off the plane?”
Spirit Airlines is known for its lack of luxury, and now six passengers are accusing the airline of discrimination. CBS Los Angeles reports that the group of black travelers heading to Dallas say they were booted from their scheduled flight on Monday night because of their race.
The incident occurred after two passengers were sitting in seats that were apparently double booked. When the flight attendant intervened, the situation escalated. Alexandria Wright, one of the individuals removed, explained the story to ABC 7:
Witnesses say the white flight attendant called the police after feeling threatened. Shortly after, the six passengers were kicked off the plane. Spirit Airlines, who told Mashable they are investigating the incident, released a statement shortly after.
"Spirit does not tolerate any form of discrimination," spokesman Paul Berry said. "Our primary concern is always the safety of our customers and team members."
