Lena Headey Says ‘Game of Thrones’ Cut a Scene Confirming Cersei Had a Miscarriage
A scene from the penultimate season, which never saw the light of day, would've helped explain Cersei's Season 8 choices.

Despite one's feelings about how Game of Thrones ultimately played out, it is apparent that the writers and directors exhausted several avenues before settling on the final result. Lena Headey, who portrayed Cersei Lannister, revealed a deleted scene from Season 7 would've better contextualized her character's motivations in the show's subsequent—and final—season.
As pointed out by The Mary Sue, Headey made an appearance at a comic book convention and told the audience about the scene, which sees Cersei "lose the baby." The actress described it as a "traumatic, great moment for Cersei."
Featuring the moment Cersei realized she was no longer pregnant would've dispelled the confusion surrounding her unborn child. "I kind of loved doing that because I thought it would've served her differently," Headey said. In the penultimate season, it was uncovered that her incestuous relationship with her twin Jaime resulted in her pregnancy. In Season 7, she convinced Euron Greyjoy he was the unborn child's father.
Aside from what could have been, the actress also recently confessed she wasn't entirely pleased with Queen Cersei's fate. "I will say I wanted a better death. Obviously you dream of your death. You could go in any way on that show. So I was kind of gutted.” She continued by acknowledging the fact that the showrunners “couldn't have pleased everyone. No matter what they did, I think there was going to be some big comedown from the climb."
