Barbara Palvin, Dylan Sprouse’s Wife, Opens up About Battle With Endometriosis
Barbara Palvin revealed she had surgery for endometriosis and urged women to seek early diagnoses.
Barbara Palvin is speaking candidly about a private health battle, revealing she recently underwent surgery for endometriosis after years of living with debilitating symptoms.
The Hungarian supermodel and wife of actor Dylan Sprouse shared the update on Instagram on Sunday (Aug. 17), explaining that she had long believed her extreme fatigue, severe cramps, heavy bleeding, and sleepless nights spent on the bathroom floor were just part of her menstrual cycle.
It wasn’t until she was encouraged to see a specialist that doctors discovered she had the chronic condition, which affects an estimated 190 million women worldwide.
“I thought this was just how it works for me,” Palvin wrote in her post. “But recently I’ve been advised to seek out an endometriosis specialist to see whether my symptoms are caused by that. I’ve been going to checkups to my gynecologist every year, I thought if I had endometriosis I would have known about it by now, but as it turns out, endometriosis can’t be diagnosed with general examinations.”
Palvin said she had surgery three months ago and, for the first time, experienced what she described as a “normal” period. She called the difference life-changing and urged her followers to advocate for themselves if they suspect something similar.
“Early diagnosis and treatment are very important to prevent long-term complications," she said, "and now I’m more mindful about my body to act fast if needed.”
The 30-year-old model also explained her three-month break from work and social media, saying she needed time to rest and fully heal following the operation. Now, she she said, she’s feeling healthier, stronger, and ready to return to her career with renewed energy.
Fans flooded Palvin’s comments with messages of love and support, praising her for breaking the stigma around menstrual health and for using her platform to raise awareness of endometriosis, a condition that is often misdiagnosed or overlooked.
"Barbara - as a fellow Endo warrior, thank you for your bravery and for sharing your story. This advocacy will help SO MANY. Here’s to days without so much pain," one person wrote. Another said, "I’m so proud of you for sharing and so happy you’re out of pain."
