Jon Stewart's HBO Project Will Be "Onion-Like" Parody of Cable News Networks

When he wasn't breaking our hearts with news that Game of Thrones will end after its eighth season, HBO programming chief Casey Bloys was lifting us up with a glimpse into Jon Stewart's next project for the network.

The departed Daily Show host is set to spearhead a series of animated, digital shorts that parody cable news networks, according toThe Wrap. The videos will reportedly post to HBO NOW for timely critiques of daily news.

“It allows him to comment real-time on what’s happening during the day’s news events [...] the animation allows him to respond to things very quickly,” Bloys said during a press conference Saturday, also per The Wrap.

Bloys reportedly hinted the launch could happen as quickly as September or October.

Stewart might have already given viewers a preview of future content. After stepping away from hosting The Daily Show, which is now led by Trevor Noah, Stewart has made appearances on friend Stephen Colbert's Late Show to criticize both Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and Fox News host Sean Hannity.

In a searing 10-minute roast of Trump and Hannity last week, Stewart referred to Trump as "this angry groundhog [that] came out and he just vomited on everybody for an hour."
