Amazon Will Produce Original Sitcoms

Following in the footsteps of Netflix and Hulu, Amazon will soon produce its own original television series.

The company announced today that its expanding its Amazon Studios imprint to start developing network-quality sitcoms and children's shows. The programs will be available exclusively on Amazon's web VOD service Amazon Instant Video, which is free with a year's subscription to Amazon Prime.

Amazon Studios will solicit scripts for shows via its website. One will be selected to go into production each month, and the best will get full series offers.
