Jamie Lee Curtis Issues Apology After Saying Marvel Is in a 'Bad' Cinematic Phase (UPDATE)
The 65-year-old actress’ next movie is 'Borderlands,' which is set to release on Aug. 9.
UPDATED 8/2, 2:40 p.m. ET: Shortly after Jamie Lee Curtis issued an apology for a disparaging joke she made about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ryan Reynolds chimed in with some thoughts.
"Wait, is everyone expected to apologize for slamming Marvel post-Endgame?" wrote the Deadpool and Wolverine actor while quote-tweeting JLC's apology.
Reynolds, of course, takes great joy in mocking some of the less-acclaimed movies in the MCU—as well as the state of the whole enterprise—in his latest Deadpool film.

Jamie Lee Curtis is sorry for some recent comments she made about Marvel.
The legendary actress made a joke about the Marvel Cinematic Universe during San Diego Comic-Con, where MTV asked her and her Borderlands castmates what “phase” the MCU is currently in.
“What phase is Marvel in right now?” host Josh Horowitz asked Curtis, to which she said, “Bad.” Her response made him laugh, and then she can be heard saying, “Wow,” almost to herself.
On Thursday, Curtis took to Instagram to apologize for her comments, alongside a clip of her and Borderlands costar Kevin Hart, who was asked to reflect on his experience working with Curtis, calling her a “leader.”
“If I'm a leader, then a leader shouldn't talk shit about other collaborative art form creators,” she wrote. “My comments about Marvel were stupid and I will do better. I've reached out to Kevin Feige and will no longer play in that mud-slinging sandbox of competition nor will I engage in the toilet paper promotion or gameplay that is designed for clicks not content.”
In MTV’s clip, Horowitz lobbed the same question at other actors during Comic-Con, and while he got a variety of answers, apparently the correct one was “Phase 5.”
In 2022, Curtis told People that she would “of course” agree to appear in a Marvel movie if they asked her, though she added, "But I would find it hard to imagine that Marvel's going to figure out something to do with a 64-year-old woman."
Her next film, Borderlands is set to release on Aug. 9, and, in addition to Hart, also features Ariana Greenblatt, Cate Blanchett, Jack Black, and Florian Munteanu, among others. Curtis is also slated to appear in Freaky Friday 2 with Lindsay Lohan, which is currently in production and expected to arrive in 2025.
